Toronto Revision Nose Jobs: How Many Is Too Many?

Nose Procedures

RRhinoplasty Surgery

Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Procedures

Although the vast majority of patients who choose to undergo rhinoplasty, or a nose job in Toronto are satisfied with their results, in some cases, a revision procedure is necessary. The need for secondary or rhinoplasty may be due to lack of rhinoplasty experience by the primary surgeon, a rare complication such as an infection, or the tissue healing process, which can be unpredictable.

Although rare, in some instances, multiple revisions may be required, however, if the patient has realistic expectations for the procedure, there is no set limit on the number of revisions that can be performed. It is important to know that because each successive procedure becomes increasingly more complicated, it is crucial to ensure that you are in good overall health and select a very experienced revision rhinoplasty surgeon before undergoing another procedure.

Have Realistic Expectations

While the majority of patients interested in revision rhinoplasty hope to correct a structural or breathing problem, some patients seek revision rhinoplasty in pursuit of perfection. In this case, a revision is not appropriate as surgery cannot enable patients to achieve the “perfect” nose and most patients seeking perfection will never be satisfied.

However, provided that the patient has realistic expectations about what can and cannot be achieved with revision surgery, multiple revision procedures can be completed. During your consultation, your surgeon will listen to your goals for the procedure, assess your nose and facial anatomy, and provide you with a clear and realistic idea of the anticipated results.

Before going forward with the procedure, it is imperative to ensure that you will be satisfied with the expected outcome and are comfortable with the associated risks. As a result of changes in blood supply and the increased presence of scar tissue, it can take longer to heal from a revision surgery than it does following a primary rhinoplasty.

Be In Good Overall Health

Because recovering from a revision procedure takes longer and the surgery itself is more complex, it is imperative to ensure that you are in good overall health prior to undergoing an additional elective cosmetic procedure. During your consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your health while also taking into consideration the scope of the surgery and the condition of your nose in order to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for an additional revision procedure.

Choose A Qualified, Experienced Surgeon

To ensure that your revision procedure is your last, it is critical to take your time to select a highly qualified and experienced surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty and is experienced in revision rhinoplasty.

To learn more about revision rhinoplasty and to determine your candidacy for a revision nose job in Toronto, we invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Philip Solomon, a leading Otolaryngologist Head and Neck Surgeon, specializing in rhinoplasty and facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
