What is Sofwave?

Sofwave is a new technology to Canada, and Dr. Philip Solomon’s Toronto clinic is the first to welcome this innovative technology. Sofwave is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment that helps tighten the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Sofwave uses high-intensity fractional ultrasound to heat the tissue in the lower layers of the skin which stimulates new collagen production. Most people only require one Sofwave treatment to see results.

Who is a Candidate for Sofwave?

Sofwave can treat all skin types. Dr. Philip Solomon’s team of professionals will assess your skin at his Toronto clinic prior to scheduling treatment. Ideal candidates are those with mild to moderate skin laxity in the neck, jowls and jawline. Those in their 30’s with early signs of aging are candidates as well as those in their mid to late 50’s.

How Does Sofwave Work?

Sofwave uses a targeted ultrasound ray to heat the tissue 1.5 mm beneath the surface of the skin. This targeted heat creates controlled damage to the tissue which then stimulates a healing response by the body. This reaction is what triggers new collagen production as well as the remodeling of existing collagen.

Collagen production is the key to youthful looking skin. Collagen accounts for 70% of your skin tissue. Collagen is the connector that unites cells that preserve your skin’s volume, elasticity, and moisture. Your body’s collagen production begins to naturally slow down in your 20s. Sun damage, free radicals and environmental factors all contribute to the breakdown of collagen. The thinning of collagen weakens our skin’s structure, causing fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity.

What can I expect from a Sofwave Procedure?

Your Sofwave treatment can take anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour depending on the number of areas being treated. Topical numbing is typically applied to ensure the patient is comfortable during their treatment. An ultrasound gel is then applied to the skin to allow the Sofwave handpiece to move smoothly. You will feel gentle pressure and some warmth, but the cooling mechanism and the anesthesia should keep you comfortable.

How long is the Recovery from Sofwave?

Downtime after a Sofwave treatment is minimal, so you can expect to resume your normal activities right away.

• Make-up can be applied immediately following your Sofwave treatment.
• Avoid swimming, soaking or using hot tubs/whirlpools and saunas.
• According to clinical testing, the treatment has no adverse events, so you probably won’t have any bruising, ulceration, or hyperpigmentation issues
• Cleanse the treated area daily with water and mild soap, then pat dry.
• Continue with regular skin care routine both day and night.
• Do not rub or scratch the treated area.
• Be sure to apply your SPF of 30 or higher daily to the treated area every 2 hours when exposed to the sun.

What is the Difference between Sofwave and Ultheapy?

Both Sofwave and Ultherapy use ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production, to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also firming the skin.

• Sofwave heats skin 1.5 mm beneath the surface, while Ultherapy can target a variety of depths, 1.5mm, 3 mm, and the SMAS/platysma muscles at 4.5 mm.
• Sofwave’s targeted depth has been noted to be less painful than Ultherapy’s targeted depth of 3 mm and 4.5 mm. By treating a targeted 1.5mm depth, minimizes damage to more superficial and deeper structures of the skin.
• Sofwave also has a built-in cooling system that cools and protects the surface of the skin.

How soon will I see Results from my Sofwave Treatment?

According to clinical studies, 88% of patients treated by Sofwave ultrasound saw generalized improvement and significant improvement in the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, 3 months following their Sofwave treatment.
