What to Expect During the Procedure

Chin Implant Surgery can take approximately 30 to 45 minutes under general anesthesia but can also be provided under local anesthesia in some cases. If you are undergoing a silicone chin implant, Dr. Solomon makes a small incision under the chin and places the implant directly on the bone.
This method allows for more accurate placement and reduces the risk of infection. For MEDPOR implants, the material is fixed to the jaw bone using tiny titanium screws that fuse to the bone, improving stability.
What to Expect Post-Procedure
Surgery for a MEDPOR implant typically takes an hour with a recovery period of 7-10 days. Recovery can take up to 10 days, with swelling lasting anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months.
Is the chin augmentation safe?
Chin implants and chin augmentation surgery are typical cosmetic procedures and are considered safe. However, they do present an increased risk for infection when the incision is made inside the mouth instead of below the chin.
This is because the mouth contains bacteria that cannot be removed with rubbing alcohol in the way a surgeon removes bacteria from the skin. As a result, Dr. Solomon prefers to make the incision under the chin.
He also performs a thorough consultation, assessment, and medical history review, to establish whether you are a suitable candidate for chin augmentation.
