Giving your body the rest it needs to recover following your Toronto Rhinoplasty is one of the most important parts of your journey.
Here are some tips to help with your recovery.
Avoid Rigorous Activity
For at least the first four weeks after the procedure, it is important to avoid exercising. This includes weight lifting, running and aerobics as well as exerting pressure from bending, pulling and pushing. After the fourth week, it is typically safe to return to your regular exercise routine. However, swimming must be avoided for six weeks.
Do Not Blow Your Nose
Since the nasal area is extremely sensitive for the first few weeks following your Toronto Rhinoplasty, you must avoid excessively sniffing or blowing your nose. Trying to breathe through your mouth, or sneezing with your mouth open, can help to relieve pressure to the nose.
Do Not Compare Results
It is important to understand that no two Toronto Rhinoplasty results will be the same. Comparing your results with other people, especially prior to you having completely healed, is usually not a good idea. Discussing realistic expectations with your surgeon, prior to your procedure is the best way to avoid any surprises or disappointment afterwards.
Address Any Issues That Arise
If something doesn’t feel right with your recovery, or it is taking longer than expected, do not hesitate to contact your surgeon for a follow up.
Avoid Excessive Chewing
Although this may sound odd, eating foods that require less effort to chew, can help with healing.

Avoid Smoking And Alcohol
Since smoking can hinder the healing process, it is recommended to avoid it for the first four weeks following the procedure. Alcohol also poses an increased risk of excessive bleeding and should be avoided for the first few weeks. Furthermore, alcohol can also interfere with medications that have been prescribed by your surgeon.
Do Not Clean Inside The Nose
Some bleeding and nasal discharge is normal within the first few days or weeks following the procedure. However, it is important to follow your surgeons’ aftercare instructions for cleaning directions. Avoid cleaning inside the nose with a Q-tip or tissue. Cleaning the nasal rim however is recommended.
Avoid Wearing T-Shirts
Since pulling clothes over your head increases the risk of bumping your nose, it may be helpful to wear button down shirts or hoodies for at least the first few days following your Toronto Rhinoplasty surgery.
Avoid Exposure To Direct Sunlight
While the nose is still sensitive, direct sunlight can cause discoloration and should be avoided. If you do go out in the sun, it is important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen for protection.
Avoid Making Important Decisions
This only applies to the first two days where the effects of anesthesia along with the trauma from the surgery may impair your judgment to make critical decisions.
