UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 Laser Resurfacing Technology

Laser skin resurfacing has earned the reputation for being, “the” anti-aging procedure with the most effective results, without the need for surgery. The phrase fractional CO2 laser resurfacing actually references two different types of laser skin resurfacing procedures, non-ablative and ablative. There are a wide range of skin resurfacing procedures which can be performed with UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing treatment, significantly minimizing the appearance of conditions including, but not limited to; pronounced wrinkles, fine lines, brown spots, acne scars, sun damage, actinic keratosis, scars from previous surgeries, hypertrophic scars, hyperpigmentation, and stretch marks.

The UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing treatment will enhance the texture of the skin, giving it a smooth appearance and eliminating imperfections in the process. The most commonly treated areas include the face, neck, chest, and hands – specifically targeting these areas for visible skin rejuvenation.

The laser itself is a gas mixture composed of carbon dioxide, helium, nitrogen, and hydrogen. This type of laser is known more widely in the industry as a CO2 laser and its wavelength is in the mid-infrared which means it is well absorbed by water. The high percentage of water in skin makes it ideal for safe, precise use on skin. Patented as the UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing treatment system, this laser removes thin layers of skin from the complexion, with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. This allows the damaged outer layer of skin to be completely removed, allowing the healthier skin cells underneath it to be brought forward, stimulating collagen in the area and ultimately yielding that smoother, younger look.

If you are uncomfortable with the appearance of certain aspects of your face – including potential signs of aging, discolouration of the skin, and/or damage – the UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing treatment method can be customized for your specific needs.

How the UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing treatment works is through the use of short, pulsing light energy that is delivered onto the face and neck, in a type of scanning pattern. This allows the removal of thin layers of skin, with minimal heat damage. This is accomplished by targeting water molecules in the skin, reducing other aspects of skin damage such as scars, wrinkles, and imperfections. Dr. Solomon will do everything possible to ensure that his patients are kept comfortable while undergoing the UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing treatment.

What Are The Side Effects?

Solomon Facial Plastic Sofwave TreatmentWith the UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing treatment, there may be some minor side effects. These include expected, immediate swelling, itching, crusting and tenderness which is typical directly post-treatment. Colour changes in the skin can sometimes become visible. Skin irritation is also a common side-effect in some patients as they go through the recovery process. In rare cases, there can be bacterial infections of the skin though this is highly uncommon. As precaution Dr. Solomon will provide you with a prophylactic antibiotic.

What Will Happen During The Recovery Process?

The actual recovery time for each patient can vary greatly depending on the size of the area treated and the number of areas treated. Throughout the initial period of recovery, which can last up to five days, expect redness and sensation similar to a sunburn to be present. Application of a topical cream or ointment throughout this initial period is necessary in order to keep the skin moist. After the first five days, the remainder of recovery should be quite comfortable – though some temporary redness is likely to remain for a few weeks.

The full length of recovery time for the UltraPulse Fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing treatment is up to two weeks. The redness should be expected to remain for up to one week. Then, the skin may remain pink in colour for a few weeks after that. It is recommended to wait to apply makeup until 10-12 days following treatment unless using Oxygnetix, a breathable foundation we carry in the exclusive Solomon Medispa. If a patient feels comfortable enough to return to work after a week, the area of their face affected by treatment will appear pink similar to a sunburn.

It is recommended to wait at least a week prior to returning to work. If a patient works in a place where the presence of a pink or sunburnt face is not appropriate, or if they will feel self conscious, it may be necessary to take two weeks off.

By the third or fourth week, most of the redness should be resolved.. At that time, the effects of the treatment can truly be appreciated. That said, some patients may continue to have some pinkness for several months, although this is temporary in nature, and should be easily covered up through the use of makeup. The initial crusting and peeling process can be an intimidating one to go through, however once the first five days of redness have passed, the final results should become apparent. It is important to note that the skin will take approximately 12 months to completely healing. The healing process and full recovery time does vary from patient to patient.
