Cosmetic Surgery Procedure: Facelift
“Facial aging” is the collective term for the loss of tone, loss of fatty tissue, and the emergence of wrinkles and excess skin that happens over time. The exact causes are a mixture of many factors including genetics, sun exposure, skin care (or lack thereof), smoking and even the force of gravity. Although there are many methods to restore your face to its youthful appearance, few can match the long-term effectiveness of a Toronto facelift with a skilled cosmetic surgeon.
What Does A Facelift Do To Counter Facial Aging?
A facelift will remove excess skin, creating a more contoured jawline and more youthful facial appearance. The underlying muscles are also tightened to further help restore the natural contours of the face. The effects are easiest to see along the jawline and neck, two areas that frequently see sagging skin from aging.
Involvement Of The Neck
Your neck and face are part of the same continuum and a “face and neck lift” refers to the same type of procedure as a facelift. Most concerns about facial aging involve the neck in some way so both are treated as part of any facial anti-aging procedure.
How Long Do Results Last?
As mentioned above, a Toronto facelift is one of the better ways to achieve long-lasting anti-aging effects. More specifically, the results of a full facelift can be expected to remain for an average of 5.- 8 years. The same factors that influence how fast skin ages, the nature of your individual facelift, and aftercare can all affect how long the results of a facelift will remain visible.
There is more than one type of facelift in Toronto, and although each can produce anti-aging effects, not everyone is in need of the same procedure. Depending on which areas of your face are showing the largest signs of aging, you may find one of these to be more to your liking.
The ideal candidate for a facelift is someone who has specific concerns about their appearance, either has no other medical issues or has their issues under control (for instance, that they regularly take blood pressure medication, if any), and is a non-smoker or can at least refrain from smoking for several weeks before the date of the facelift.
This targets the SMAS (superficial facial muscle) layer of the skin to tighten and support the muscles of the lower face.
Deep Plane Facelift
As the name implies, this targets a deeper layer of the skin than the typical facelift and works on the lower face and cheek area. This type of facelift goes deep enough that it can reposition the fat pads of the cheeks to create a more contoured and youthful look. Deep Plane Facelift results can last longer than those of a normal facelift.
Sometimes, a person’s anti-aging concerns are most focused on their neck area. A neck lift removes excess skin and fat and re-tightens the muscles in the neck region to produce a natural, youthful, and smooth neck, but does not go higher than the chin.
This is a relatively new option compared to some of the other face lift variations and is short for “minimal-access cranial suspension”. It is a more minimalist facelift that focuses on addressing sagging skin in the mid-face, jawline and neck regions. As it is a more minimal and gentler approach, this type of Toronto facelift can be good for people who are looking at cosmetic surgery for the first time.
