Understanding the Procedure
During your initial consultation, your surgeon will examine your general health and discuss your reasons for getting chin augmentation surgery. Chin augmentation surgery takes about 30–45 minutes using general anesthesia, but local anesthesia can also be provided. A small incision is made under the chin for silicone chin implants, which are placed directly on the bone.
Our surgeons prefer this method because it allows for a more accurate placement while reducing the chance of infection. Both silicone and medpor chin implants can be used with silicone being most popular. Silicone implants are fitted into a small pocket in front of the mandible, affixed securely for decades and should not require replacing. Medpor implants are screwed into the mandible and are a more permanent fixture thus removing it would be far more complex, should the patient requested to do so.

What are the benefits?

Patients don’t have to be overweight for their face and/or neck to store excess fat cells in the chin. Sometimes, a genetic makeup is responsible for a double or weak chin.
When a person genetically inherits a small jawline and chin, it causes a profile, making it appear as if the person’s chin recedes into their neck. Therefore, when photographed, even the smallest amount of fat can seem like another fold, crease, or double chin.

Are there any risks?
While chin augmentation and implants are standard procedures and considered safe, there is a risk of infection when incisions are made in the mouth instead of below the chin.
Your mouth contains bacteria that rubbing alcohol cannot remove in the same way as the skin. Therefore, Dr. Solomon prefers to create incisions under the chin to avoid infection.
