The nose is one of our most prominent facial features. For this reason, many individuals feel self-conscious about their nasal appearance, whether it is the shape, size, projection or bulbous appearance. While rhinoplasty can provide improved facial balance and some youthfulness, facelift surgery combined with rhinoplasty can deliver a profound result in facial rejuvenation.
When is combining surgeries for full facial rejuvenation beneficial?
The main reason individuals choose rhinoplasty in Toronto is that it improves nasal issues like humps, bumps, a crooked nose, or concerns about the nasal tip. Even tiny improvements in rhinoplasty surgery can generate a significant difference.
However, combining a rhinoplasty with facelift surgery offers many benefits such as one downtime for recovery, addressing a nasal appearance that has bothered you for decades, improving upon a previous rhinoplasty with facelift surgery and creating a nasal shape (a sloped bridge) which can make the nose appear more youthful.
Other benefits of combining treatments with a facelift in Toronto include the following:
- Improved facial harmony: Adjusting both areas simultaneously provides a balanced appearance. It brings an appealing and fresh vitality to the face, which boosts confidence.
- Cost-effectiveness: Combined surgery reduces overall cost and downtime. Patients benefit from shorter recoveries, a single surgery, and reduced costs of having a procedure in a single setting. This streamlined approach reduces time off work or other activities, making it less disruptive to your lifestyle.
- Look more Youthful: By adopting a comprehensive approach, you achieve a more comprehensive age reversal than if you performed the procedure singularly.
- Longer-lasting results: Combined surgery maximizes their aesthetic advantages while extending their longevity. The surgical results can last several years, allowing you to enjoy a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance for a longer duration without requiring additional intervention.
The Advantages of Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty provides an idealized version of your nose that optimally balances with the rest of your face. Our expert surgeon will assess you in consultation, review risks and potential outcomes, to ensure you are a good candidate for surgery.
Often, people choose rhinoplasty because:
- They do not like the appearance of their nose.
- An injury has occurred.
- Structural or medical issues impact their breathing.
Rhinoplasty surgery comes with many considerations such as medical history, nasal anatomy, skin thickness, patient goals and ethnicity.
How Surgery Is Performed
Rhinoplasty can be open or closed. Open rhinoplasty requires a small incision between your nostrils. Closed rhinoplasty requires no external incisions, all are made internally. The skin envelope is elevated, or we will refine the tip while addressing your bridge. This surgery may involve straightening the dorsal or eliminating a hump.
We may narrow the bridge of the nose and reduce its size (shortening it). Cartilage grafts may be added to adjust or support the shape of the nose in specific locations.
Straightening may be required for a deviated nose. For ethnic noses, the dorsum may require augmenting to increase the profile.
Duration
After surgery, patients wear a protective cast for 7-10 days. You will return to our clinic so we can remove the cast and clean the nose. Patients will require up to two weeks of downtime from their social activities and employment.
The new nose shape becomes more evident within two to four weeks. However, the final results can take up to one year and in some cases 18 months, when swelling subsides, and the tip takes its final shape.
The Advantages of Facelift Surgery
Facelift surgery is an effective way to achieve a more rejuvenated and youthful appearance. It requires a clinical assessment, during which we examine your medical history, skin type, and your goals for the surgery. Then, we select from various options, such as a lower face and neck lift, mini-facelift or isolated neck lift.
Younger patients in their 40’s may benefit from a mini-facelift as the skin on their neck may not yet be affected by the aging process.
How It Is Performed
In facelift surgery, our surgeon not only removes excess skin, but repositions the underlying structure of the face, the muscle and soft tissue to a more elevated position much like it was previously. This procedure elevates the cheeks, improves facial contour, jawline sharpness, softens naso-labial fold and wrinkles and creates a more defined neck shape.
For a mini-facelift, incisions are made in front of your ear and ends just behind the earlobe. The surgeon raises the skin envelope, and deeper tissues (SMAS [superficial musculoaponeurotic system] tissues) are recontoured for a youthful appearance.
These cosmetic procedures provide:
- A more defined lower face
- Fuller cheeks and elevated mid-face
- Sharper jawline
Duration
Facelift surgeries take several hours to complete and may require an overnight stay. Drains are combined with accompanying head bandages. They are removed the day after surgery before you return home. Patients return one week post-op for the removal of stitches.
Facelift surgeries require two to three weeks of recovery.
Which procedure should be done first?
There isn’t a strict order when combining a facelift and rhinoplasty in Toronto. It may depend on your needs or priorities. We may prioritize the nose if you have a strong nose of concern instead of facial laxity. However, if aging is more of a concern, then this will be the first to be addressed.
Can they be done together?
Yes, they can be done in tandem. However, the length and complexity of the combined surgery may be a factor. For example, younger patients with a straightforward rhinoplasty procedure and who have a mini-facelift may not have a lengthy procedure. On the other hand, mature patients desiring a more extensive facelift (full neck and face) with eyelid surgery, fat grafting, etc., may undergo a longer procedure.
Combining lengthy treatments with rhinoplasty in Toronto means the individual must remain under anesthesia for a longer time.
