Although the neck is not technically part of the face, a neck with loose sagging skin can have a dramatic impact on age appearance, and especially the appearance of age in the face.

Many patients think that their neck is making them look older. Others see that the excess skin on the neck is distracting or unsightly to look at. For this reason, many opt to undergo neck liposuction or a neck lift procedure. There is a difference, however.

A neck lift

People typically undergo this procedure to create a more firm, smooth and lean look to their neck and chin. Neck lifts are very popular procedures. The main reason is that, even without making an significant alterations to the face, a skilled surgeon can dramatically improve the overall appearance of both the face and the neck. This allows patients to leave looking years younger, or even as if they have lost substantial weight.

Neck contouring

It is also for patients that wish to achieve a better defined jawline. This will frame more effectively the rest of their face. However, different surgical methods are successful, according to the patient’s aesthetic goals. Contouring which produces a fuller looking chin or eliminates the appearance of a “turkey neck” are both possible, each one with a different method.

Neck lifts

Generally, they are outpatient procedures under general anesthesia.  In this procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision behind each ear, perhaps under the chin as well. Then, he will then tighten the neck muscles and remove excess and loose skin.

Neck liposuction

Like any other form of liposuction, it is a method for removing excess fat from the body. Liposuction will not improve the appearance of sagging skin which comes with age and typical neck liposuction patients are between 20 to 50 years-old because they typically have better skin elasticity which is required for proper liposuction recovery.
Neck liposuction is usually a relatively quick procedure, and can often be performed with local anaesthetic. The surgeon will make one or two small incisions underneath the chin and insert a liposuction cannula to remove the excess fat. After the procedure, a patient will be given a protective chin strap to wear for three or four days while the surgical site heals, and then be back to work within a week and completely back to normal after 2 weeks.
Neck lift and liposuction procedures are very straightforward and both employ relatively non-invasive techniques that can achieve dramatic results for the patient. For more information, please contact our team of specialists.
