Many women often desire to have large lips. Though, some women are looking to downsize their over augmented lips. Today, we are seeing more and more women desiring a natural looking lip enhancement that improves their overall look. As a result, there is an increase of women seeking Lip Reduction procedures.

In the late 90’s and early 2000’s, there was a growing trend in the media for women to have large pouty lips. This increased lip augmentation procedures with longer lasting or permanent fillers. However, achieving large lips are not a one size fits all approach. As a consequence, when considering lip enhancing procedures it is important to consider many factors.  Your first priority is to find an expert surgeon. An specialist should artistically augment your lips while respecting your natural facial proportions and symmetry.
Other considerations include type and longevity of lip filler. The most common and safe lip fillers consist of hyaluronic acid. This kink can last 6-12 months. If over correction occurs with these products, they can typically be dissolved. In this case, the surgeon applies an enzyme directly into the tissue of concern. Consequently, the correction is with almost instantaneous. On the other hand, if lip augmentation involves a semi permanent or permanent filler, reversing the results of over correction or asymmetries may be challenging. In some cases a simple steroid injection may reduce some of the excess volume. However, in most cases surgical excision of the product and surrounding tissue is neccesary.
As you can see in the next image, Dr. Philip Solomon, of Toronto performed an upper lip reduction procedure on a woman who had received permanent lip fillers many years ago. This  case required surgical removal. This procedure was done in the office under local anesthetic with a 1-2 week recovery.
