“Botox injections can be used to relax the platysma (neck) muscle and reduce the appearance of creases. Also, injectable fillers can be used to fill a crease.”

What are my options for removing or disguising them?
Which option is most effective?

Dr. Philip Solomon, a facial plastic surgeon in Thornhill, Ont., responds:
Deep creases in the neck are a common problem, often occurring with age, but even occurring in some young people.
Botox injections can be used to relax the platysma (neck) muscle and reduce the appearance of creases. Also, injectable fillers can be used to fill a crease.
However, if the crease is seen in conjunction with laxity of tissues in the lower face and neck, a neck lift will help improve the appearance of this area and may also have a tightening effect on some of the skin creases.
Skin-rejuvenating techniques, such as lasers, chemical peels and dermabrasion, often used for facial lines, should be avoided, due to risk of scarring on the neck.
