1. What You Need To Purchase Prior to Surgery:

  • Q-Tips and/or 4x4 non-woven sterile gauze
  • Hydrogen Peroxide H202 3%
  • Polysporin or Bacitracin Ointment
  • Vitamin C, up to 2000mg daily 2 weeks prior to surgery is Recommended
  • Ice packs or small bags of Frozen Peas
  • Prescribed Medication for your Facelift Surgery provided by Dr. Solomon prior to your Surgery
  • Confirmed Ride Home from your Surgery

2. What to AVOID 2 Weeks Prior to Surgery:

  • Smoking (Nicotine / Marijuana)
  • Alcohol (Discontinue for at Least 2 weeks prior to Surgery as it may Increase Bruising and Prolong Swelling.
  • Naturopathic or Herbal Medications/Supplements (Unless Approved by Dr. Philip Solomon)
  • Remove Gel/Acrylic Nails and Nail Polish for surgery
  • MUST DISCONTINUE: Aspirin, Advil or Ibuprofen, as these products may increase bleeding.
  • MUST DISCONTINUE: Arnica must be discontinued 2-3 weeks prior to Surgery. However, Arnica is Recommended Immediately following your Surgery
  • MUST AVOID: Garlic Extract, Fish Oils and Vitamin E

3. What to Expect Following your Facelift:

  • Swelling is expected post-operatively and may last for up to 4 weeks to resolve. Your face may look puffy and round or square during the initial recovery period. It may take a few weeks for it to slim and smooth out
  • You may experience pain during the recovery process. Take Tylenol for pain
  • Bruising is expected and is normal. Bruising often takes up to 2 weeks to resolve
  • You may experience numbness along the side of the face and jawline. This is temporary and typically resolves within a few weeks but may last a few months in some cases

4. Cleaning Instructions:

  • Do Not Wet Incisions for 72 hours. Keep surgical area dry
  • 3 days Following your Facelift, you are Encouraged to Gently Wipe or Dab Incisions with a Soaked Q Tip or 4x4 Gauze Pad with Hydrogen Peroxide, Both Morning and Night. This will help Remove Dried Blood
  • After Cleaning, Apply a Thin Layer of Polysporin or Bacitracin Ointment along the incisions * Repeat After every Cleaning

5. Following Your Facelift:

  • When you Return Home following your Facelift Surgery, you may Drink Liquids. By the Evening, you may have a Light Meal, Soft Food that Requires No Strenuous Chewing
  • You will Have a Head Garment/Tensor Bandage around your Face and will be Removed the Day After Surgery at our Clinic by our Nurse
  • If you have Surgical Drains in place, Dr. Solomon or his Nurse will Remove them in our clinic the Next Day after your Facelift Surgery
  • A Facial Compression Garment will then be worn for 1 week, to be Removed at our Clinic at your Next Appointment
  • Sleep on 2 or 3 Pillows with your Head Elevated at Least 30 Degrees for the First 3 Days Following your Facelift Surgery
  • Do Not Sleep on your Face. Ideally, Sleep on your Back for the First 2 Weeks following your Facelift Surgery
  • Sutures and Staples will be Removed 7-10 Days following your Facelift Surgery
  • In Some Cases, Partial Sutures will be Removed After 7 Days and the Remaining on the 10th Day
  • Swelling does Persist for 4-6 Weeks Following your Facelift Surgery so you will need to be patient until it Resolves Completely
  • You may Experience Pain during your Facelift Recovery. Take Tylenol as needed
  • You may have a Bath 1 Day Following your Facelift Surgery. Avoid Direct Stream of Water. Please Ensure Someone is Home with you and the Bathroom Door is Unlocked In Case you Feel Lightheaded and Require Help
  • Cool Mist Humidifier or Commercial Steamer is Recommended at your Bedside for 2-4 Weeks following your Facelift Surgery

6. What To Avoid Following your Facelift:

  • Avoid Picking at Scabs. This can cause Scarring.
  • Avoid Direct Stream of Water from Shower Head on Surgical Incisions for 1 Week
  • Avoid Bending over or Lifting Heavy things for 2 Weeks. This could Aggravate Swelling, Raise Blood Pressure and cause Hemorrhaging
  • Avoid Smoking, especially throughout the Recovery Period as Smoking may Prolong Healing
  • Avoid Alcohol for at Least Weeks following your Facelift Surgery as it may Increase Bruising and Prolong Swelling
  • Avoid Naturopathic or Herbal Medications unless Approved by Dr. Solomon
  • Avoid Aspirin, Advil, or Ibuprofen as these Products can Prolong Swelling
  • Avoid Physical Exercise for 4 Weeks Following your Facelift Surgery unless otherwise stated by Dr. Solomon
  • Avoid Direct Sun Exposure on your Incisions for 1 year following your Facelift Surgery. Use a Minimum of SPF 45 Daily
  • Avoid Wearing Eye Glasses on the Nose for 6 Weeks. Glasses Must be Taped to your Forehead

7. When To Be Concerned:

  • If you Develop a Rash, Persistent Fever, Chills or Sweating
  • If you Notice a Foul Odour or Yellow Drainage coming from the Incision Sites
  • If you Experience Severe Facial or Throat Pain that Is Not Controlled with Tylenol
  • If you Experience Persistent Bleeding that Does Not Resolve in 20 Minutes or With Direct Pressure
  • If you Develop a Large Firm Mass Extending from the Surgical Area
  • If you Experience Persistent Vomiting and are Unable to Drink Liquids for Greater Than 4 Hour
  • If you Experience Shortness of Breath, Chest Pain, Weakness or Numbness in the Face or Limbs
