Looking to get a Chin Implant in Toronto?

If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your chin, getting chin implant surgery could be the solution. Also known as chin augmentation, chin implants offer a transformative surgery that dramatically improves facial proportions for a pleasing appearance that is more symmetrical and defined.

Dr. Solomon is an experienced chin implant surgeon specializing in correcting recessed or “weak chins” for patients who fly in from across Canada for the procedure at one of his clinics in the Greater Toronto Area.

What is chin augmentation surgery?

Chin augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure in which implants are inserted beneath the chin to create more definition. Silicone implants are the most common type of chin implant and are available in various shapes and sizes, allowing you to achieve the desired results. Dr. Solomon offers computer imaging for chin augmentation to help devise a treatment plan with the patient to ensure the best chin implant is selected to achieve their desired goals.

Silicone chin implants are the most common implant used for chin augmentation as they are easy to surgically implant as well as remove if needed. Dr. Solomon also offers a more permanent product material called Medpor, as well as custom implants for a more permanent and customised result. Medpor chin implants are made from biocompatible polyethylene, a porous material that allows tissue to grow through it. MEDPOR implants are designed to form a U-shape, using two pieces which allows the chin implant to conform to the facial skeleton creating a more natural appearance.  They are also affixed to the jaw bone with titanium screws to help prevent dislocation or movement. Custom chin implants are made outside of Canada and do require Health Canada approval, which can delay the surgical process.

What imperfections do MEDPOR chin implants address?

MEDPOR implants are customizable, safe and secure, and ideal for correcting the following imperfections:

  • Elongating the face or sharpening the chin

  • Moderate to severe retraction of the chin

  • Chin issues related to a short mandible

  • Follow up to orthognathic surgery to improve maxillary mandibular proportions

You can set up a consultation with Dr. Solomon at either our Toronto or Thornhill clinics to discuss your concerns and the possible solutions available to improve your chin’s appearance.

What are the benefits of getting chin implants?

Chin implants offer many benefits, including:

  • Achieve facial harmony

  • Develop a weak or recessed chin

  • Provide enhancement to neck and jawline definition

  • Improved confidence and self-esteem

  • Reduce the appearance of a double chin

We are here to answer your questions and provide advice to help you achieve your desired look. As well, Dr. Solomon often performs chin implants in combination with other procedures such as rhinoplasty, neck liposuction, and facelift surgery to achieve a dramatic improvement that appears more natural.

What to Expect When Considering MEDPOR Chin Implants

Before Dr. Solomon recommends any cosmetic surgical procedures, he first schedules a consultation at our private clinic in Toronto or Thornhill. This allows him to discuss your personal goals and review your health history. This is a very important step, as you have two choices for chin augmentation surgery.

Dr. Solomon also considers all medical conditions that might increase risks. If your health history does not present risks, he will discuss your options to help you choose your preferred procedure. As long as you are over the age of 20 and your bone development is complete, you could make an ideal candidate.

Patients with concerns about their jaw position may want to first consider seeing a Maxillofacial Surgeon to review their options before proceeding with a chin implant. A chin implant should not be performed if jaw surgery is still being considered by the patient.

Dr. Solomon will educate you and review the pros and cons of each option in order to help you make the best decision. If you are not sure about the chin implant procedure, you can also discuss facial fillers as a temporary method of chin augmentation.

We use a number of filler products, including Bellafill, which lasts up to five years. To help make your decision easier, Dr. Solomon also uses computer imaging to reveal potential chin augmentation results.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Chin implant surgery in Toronto

Chin Implant Surgery can take approximately 30 to 45 minutes under general anesthesia but can also be provided under local anesthesia in some cases. If you are undergoing a silicone chin implant, Dr. Solomon makes a small incision under the chin and places the implant directly on the bone.

This method allows for more accurate placement and reduces the risk of infection. For MEDPOR implants, the material is fixed to the jaw bone using tiny titanium screws that fuse to the bone, improving stability.

What to Expect Post-Procedure

Surgery for a MEDPOR implant typically takes an hour with a recovery period of 7-10 days. Recovery can take up to 10 days, with swelling lasting anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months.

Is the chin augmentation safe?

Chin implants and chin augmentation surgery are typical cosmetic procedures and are considered safe. However, they do present an increased risk for infection when the incision is made inside the mouth instead of below the chin.

This is because the mouth contains bacteria that cannot be removed with rubbing alcohol in the way a surgeon removes bacteria from the skin. As a result, Dr. Solomon prefers to make the incision under the chin.

He also performs a thorough consultation, assessment, and medical history review, to establish whether you are a suitable candidate for chin augmentation.
