Facial Fillers & Skin Peels
TTemporary Facial Fillers
Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures
Facial fillers are a great non-surgical approach to combat the effects of aging. The results can be subtle or dramatic depending on what you wish to accomplish, and will help maintain your natural and authentic beauty as you age. Facial filler injections are an in-office procedure that can be performed within an hour and are capable of taking years off your face.
At Solomon Facial Plastic Toronto, we feel that it’s very important to educate our patients about dermal fillers, about what your options are for treatment, and what the differences are between the different products. We also believe that our patients should have a better understanding of their facial anatomy in order to recognize what their needs are and how we can best achieve your goals.
For instance, for filling in the volume of the cheeks and the temples, we use a firmer product such as Perlane, Teosyal, Ultradeep or Voluma. When treating the naso-labial folds, we use products such as Restylane, Emervel, Juvaderm Ultra Plus and Teosyal’s Global Action, which are all good choices as well.
Injecting under the eyes demands a different technique and a highly skilled injector. Your injector needs to be intimately familiar with the anatomy around the eye. Many patients who in the past would have required lower eyelid surgery, can now benefit from filler injections and can delay the need for surgical intervention for several years.
Redensity 2 And Restylane Fine Lines
The most common products used for this indication are Redensity2 and Restylane Fine Lines. It’s important to note that it takes 2 weeks from the time of injection for the product to settle and blend with your face in order to gage your results. Should your results not appear as you had anticipated, a product called hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve the product within minutes. Facial filler, depending on the product, can last anywhere from 9 months to 2 years.
Over time, a lot of volume in the face can be lost as a natural part of the aging process. Much of the
function of facial cosmetic surgery and non-surgical facial treatments are based around the restoration of volume and creating a natural looking youthful face. Through the use of facial fillers, one can significantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving you a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance.
Before & After Photos
In the case of these patients, both were treated by Dr. Philip Solomon at the Solomon Nasal and Facial Plastic Surgery Centre. Both patients had personalized treatment plans created for them by Dr. Solomon to address their individual needs..
Significant results were achieved in both women using a non-surgical approach to age related issues of the face. As a specialist in facial cosmetic rejuvenation, Dr. Solomon often recommends to patients to his patients, if they are candidates, to use a non-surgical approach first to achieve their goals before opting for surgery.
Hyaluronic Acid Filler Treatment
The subtle improvements that facial fillers can provide is highly attractive to many people. This non-surgical cosmetic procedure allows you to support and enhance your natural beauty and to provide immediate results that don’t require significant downtime as you would experience following surgery.
Among the array of materials that have been used in facial fillers over time, one of the more popular options as well as one of the more effective ones have been using Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid viscoelastic gel is made from a natural material that provides support and cushioning within the skin. Because Hyaluronic acid is similar to the components of your own skin, it will gradually break down and be naturally absorbed by your body. Even if you have sensitive skin, or have had a reaction to a treatment with a different skin product, you may still be able to be treated with Hylaform gel.
Hyaluronic acid is commonly used by patients from their mid-20s to their late 50s in order to address moderate to severe lines and wrinkles as well as to attack collagen degradation.
The results are immediate with little to no recovery time. Most commonly patients experience mild bruising and swelling that typically lasts a few days. Most patients find the treatment quite comfortable with minimal discomfort which quickly resolves. Most fillers contain lidocaine a numbing agent that helps to reduce discomfort making the treatment much more tolerable.
An overview on how they work is essentially by attracting water molecules to the injected area, and is able to plump up an area in part due to the absorption of water. Hyaluronic acid fillers are also known to stimulate collagen production, another method for increasing tissue volume. The longevity of your results from Hyaluronic acid fillers varies from 9 months to 2 years, depending on the area of application, as well as the product’s specific chemical properties, and a patient’s biochemistry. The different properties in Hyaluronic acid fillers vary due to the different acidic concentrations and the degree of cross-linking. Some Hyaluronic acid fillers are better suited for certain applications than others.

How Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Work
How Hyaluronic acid fillers work is simple. Hyaluronic acid is introduced just under the skin’s surface through a very fine needle. It is injected at intervals to the desired area until the right amount of correction has been achieved. The treated area is then massaged gently to smooth the surface. Commonly treated areas include the nasolabial folds, cheeks, temples, tear troughs, marionette lines and chin and jawline. Hyaluronic acid can also be used to treat the border of the lips. This can add definition to the lip border for those who desire a fuller look.
The Hyaluronic Acid Filler Treatment
Non-Hyaluronic Filler – The Radiesse Treatment
Radiesse is an alternative temporary facial filler developed with safety and longevity in mind. Radiesse has its own unique characteristics that differ from Hyaluronic Acid. Radiesse is a non-surgical facial contouring filler that delivers immediate, longer lasting results yet still falls under the category of temporary fillers. Radiesse is an alternative treatment to hyaluronic acid because it has the ability to last longer in some patients mainly because of its differing chemical composition. This can result in a more significant tissue effect in some patients. Radiesse is often an appealing choice for people who exercise regularly and for men, as the product is believed by many to last 50% longer and therefore seems to provide good value.
Which Filler Is Right For Me?
With so many fillers on the market, it can be confusing to determine which one may be best for you. This is why we recommend speaking to Dr. Solomon and his team of expert injectors to assess the areas of your face that you feel need improvement, in order to create an individual treatment plan just for you.
The differences between products within the same class of Hyaluronic acid include Juvederm, Restylane, Teosyal, and Boletero, are not that significant despite how they are marketed. Comparing aesthetic outcomes, the results are quite similar though your cosmetic injector may recommended one over the other depending on the area of the face that you wish to improve as well as their experience with each product. Some of the factors taken into account when choosing the right filler for you includes the location on your face, the depth of lines you are looking to fill, required degree of augmentation, your skin quality, and your skin thickness.

The principles that we use to guide how these types of products are in place to ensure that the distribution of the facial filler is even, and at the correct depth; to ensure that symmetry is the highest priority; and to not fill a given area beyond the accepted limits. Enhancing your natural beauty is the ultimate goal. We always ensure that our patients are educated about any side effects that may occur as the result of their filler injection.
