Is there any age requirement to have surgery?
Patient question:
I am 14 years old and want to get a Rhinoplasty Surgery. I think I’m ready to go ahead but my parents want me to be older before I do surgery. Is there an age requirement to have surgery?
Dr. Solomon’s Answer:
This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon. And Otolaryngologist Head and Neck Surgeon.
Generally Female patients must be 15 year of age and males 16 years of age to have surgery in my practice. Physical and mental maturity is important before proceeding with nose surgery that will permanently alter ones appearance. Consent to treatment in Ontario does not set a specific age but requires that the person giving consent understands the risks and benefits of the surgery. Despite this it is best if your parents and you are in agreement about the surgery.

I was planning to get rhinoplasty in the summerm of 2008. I will be 18 and a half then. Do you think this is a safe age?
