Here are the top 5 questions I get asked most often by people considering treatments:

1. How Long Does It Take to Start Working?

It takes approximately 5 days for the medicine to cause the treated muscles to relax.

The creases should then begin to smooth out in 1 to 2 weeks. If you have deep creases, it may take a bit longer for the skin to “flatten” out.

What can be done to fix my droopy nasal and small chin?

Posted in Cosmetic Surgery Questions, Rhinoplasty | Posted By - Dr. Solomon

Patient Question:

I have a bump on my nose, a droopy nasal tip and small chin.  What can be done to enhance my appearance?

Dr. Solomon’s Answer:

Rhinoplasty surgery is a common procedure which can dramatically improve ones appearance.    The goal of rhinoplasty surgery is to deemphasize the nose and to accentuate other facial features.   Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures performed.  Hundreds of thousands of Rhinoplasty procedures are performed annually in most of the developed and developing world.  Rhinoplasty surgery often is done to improve balance of ones facial features.  In circumstances where a nose is too large for ones face reduction rhinoplasty surgery is often suggested.  Reduction Rhinoplasty often requires removal of a nasal bump as well as narrowing of the nasal bones and often modification of the nasal tip.  If ones tip droops it can be lifted and strengthened to give a more balanced and attractive nose.  Read the rest of this entry »

Does reducing the size of my Apple affect ones voice?

Posted in Cosmetic Surgery Questions | Posted By - Dr. Solomon

Patient Question:

I’m a transgender patient interested in reducing my Adams apple. Can you please describe this procedure and its typical recovery and if this procedure will affect ones voice?

Dr. Solomon’s Answer:

The Thyroid Cartilage, also referred to as the Adams apple is a prominent cartilage structure which is the front wall of the voice box and is typically larger in men than women. This structure can be shaved down to lessen its prominence and flatten the anterior neck. The procedure is typically done with general anesthesia but can be done with local anesthesia in certain cases. The procedure takes less than an hour. The Recovery is typically a week for bruising to largely settle. Final results can take a number of weeks. As this is surgery on the voice box structures it has risk and must be done by an surgeon with expertise in airway and cosmetic plastic surgery. This procedure is on the outer wall of the voice box and should not affect the voice. Different procedures to alter the voice or feminize the voice are available but typically are done by a laryngologist or voice surgeon as a separate procedure.

I still have concerns about my rhinoplasty. Can you help?

Posted in Cosmetic Surgery Questions | Posted By - Dr. Solomon

Patient Question:

I had Rhinoplasty Surgery last year. I still have concerns regarding the appearance of my nose. I feel my nose is still thick and the tip hangs down too much. The bridge does not feel smooth. I also have trouble breathing now. Here are photos for you to look at. Please let me know if you think you can help.

Dr. Solomon’s Answer:

Your photos indicate that you appear to have thick nasal skin. You also have what is called a polybeak deformity and collapse of the middle vault of your nose. Your nasal tip is still bulky but this may be related to the lack of strength to the nasal tip. If you want to come in for a consult we can evaluate you thoroughly and determine if revision surgery is something you wish to consider. Breathing tests also may help determine what is contributing to your nasal congestion since your prior rhinoplasty. Please see our site information on revision rhinoplasty to view some of our revision rhinoplasty photos. You will see similar cases to yours and some examples of what can be accomplished with revision rhinoplasty surgery.
