Questions About Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery
Patient Question:
Dr. Solomon can you please help? I had Rhinoplasty Surgery in Iran last year. I still have concerns regarding the appearance of my nose. I feel my nose is still thick and the tip hangs down too much. The bridge does not feel smooth. I also have trouble breathing now. Here are photos for you to look at. Please let me know if you think you can help.
Dr. Solomon’s Answer:
Dr Solomon Facial Cosmetic Surgeon double certified in Canada and the USA. Located in Toronto and Thornhill Ontario, Canada.
Thanks for contacting our clinic. Your photos indicate that you appear to have thick nasal skin. You also have what is called a polybeak deformity and collapse of the middle vault of your nose. Your nasal tip is still bulky but this may be related to the lack of strength to the nasal tip. If you want to come in for a consult we can evaluate you thoroughly and determine if revision surgery is something you wish to consider. Breathing tests also may help determine what is contributing to your nasal congestion since your prior rhinoplasty. Please see our site information on revision rhinoplasty view some of our revision rhinoplasty photos. You will see similar cases to yours and some examples of what can be accomplished with revision rhinoplasty surgery.
Use and Risks of Gortex in Rhinoplasty Surgery
Patient Question:
Can you tell me about gortex use in rhinoplasty surgery and what are the risks associated with it?
Gortex implants known as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) have been used extensively in a variety of surgical procedures for years. Its use in rhinoplasty date back over 20 years. Gortex is used in rhinoplasty as an alternative to cartilage grafts. It can be used to build up areas of the nose or to camouflage areas of asymmetry or irregularity possibly resulting from prior nasal surgery or trauma.
In rhinoplasty cases where building of the nose is required patients will be offered both cartilage grafts and gortex implants. The advantages and disadvantages of grafts and gortex will be outlined to each patient on a case by case basis. The biggest risk of gortex use is infection or extrusion of the implant which is felt to be between one and three percent incidence.
Dr. Philip Solomon Performs Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery to Correct Past & Present Nasal Deformities
Patient Question:
Can Dr. Solomon tell me about revision rhinoplasty surgery. I have had surgery in the past and have developed what other Dr’s call a polybeak deformity. My nasal bridge is irregular and I have difficulty breathing. I have been told that revision surgery will be difficult.
Dr. Solomon’s Answer:
Philip Solomon MD, FRCSC Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery-Facial Plastic Surgery
Revision rhinoplasty is performed to correct problems still present despite a primary rhinoplasty or that develop as a result of previous rhinoplasty surgery. Problems may be minor and easily corrected or major, making secondary surgery complex. No matter the problem Revision rhinoplasty is almost always more difficult and requires more expertise than primary rhinoplasty surgery.
