DDimple Surgery

Toronto Rhinoplasty Surgeon – Otolaryngologist Head and Neck Surgeon

Dimples are small depressions in cheek muscles that show at the sides of the mouth when someone smiles, adding an extra sparkle. They are considered signs of good luck, prosperity and attractiveness in some cultures. Many people who wish they had been born with natural dimples are happy to learn that they can be created surgically.

Is dimple surgery right for me?

Some patients desire deep and round dimples like Mario Lopez while others would prefer to have subtler, vertical dimples like Rachel McAdams. The ideal shape and placement of dimples can be customized to suit your face.

As with all facial cosmetic plastic surgery procedures aesthetic judgment is key to a good outcome.
Dr. Philip Solomon, MD, FRCSC
is a double board certified facial surgeon who has performed dimple creation surgery for over a decade in his Toronto Facial Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Centre.

Dr. Solomon will assess whether a patient is a good candidate for the procedure and may advise against it. For example, it is not recommended for people with thin faces as it can create a look that is too hollowed.

What to expect during the procedure.

The procedure takes place in the facial cosmetic surgery clinic using local anesthesia. A small incision is made on the inside of the cheek and a little section of the inner skin and cheek muscle is removed. A dissolving suture that lasts a week or two ties the dimple to the underside of the cheek and no incisions or scars are visible from the outside.

Dimples can be created for both cheeks in one appointment, taking about 20 minutes per side. However, Dr. Solomon often recommends doing only one side at a time before committing to both, because the procedure can be difficult and often impossible to reverse.

How soon will my cheeks recover and what will they look like?

Patients can go home right after the procedure and pain and swelling are minimal. After healing, the dimples should ideally be visible with smiling but barely visible when the cheeks are at rest.

The new dimples will last a lifetime. Contact our office to book an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Solomon and find out if dimple surgery is right for you.
